Enhanced Reward $10,000 Derek “Dibbs” Pitts Homicide

CASE SOLVED BY 2 FIRST COAST CRIME STOPPERS TIPS

December 29, at 11:40 p.m., patrol officers were called to an 10275 Old St Augustine Rd, at Coopers Hawk apartment complex. The Sheriff’s Office said two groups of mostly juveniles had gotten into an altercation at a party when several shots were fired. It wasn’t clear if the teen was the target or was involved in the dispute or whether there may have been more than one shooter.

When they arrived, they located a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Derek Pitts

Officers performed CPR until members from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived.

The victim was then transported to a local hospital where tragically he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives with both the Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit have responded to conduct the investigation.

JSO states that although it is very early in the investigation, they do know that there was a large group of juveniles in the area when an altercation occurred between two groups of individuals.

The suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect then fled on foot. Numerous witnesses were detained and have been transported to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed.

Anyone with information that could help police in their investigation is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.
