Why Do We Need Crime Stoppers?

First Coast Crime Stoppers operates with a clear mission: to empower the public to report crime anonymously, support law enforcement investigations, and enhance public safety across Northeast Florida. The program achieves this through strategic objectives that are measurable and impactful, translating community participation into real-world outcomes.First Coast Crime Stoppers was created in response to a clear and enduring need within Northeast Florida: residents possess valuable information that can help solve crime but are often reluctant to share it due to fear, apathy, or concern about personal safety. From the earliest days of the Crime Stoppers movement, this dynamic was recognized as a central challenge for law enforcement — in many cases, people do see, hear, or know critical details about criminal activity, yet they withhold that information because they fear retaliation, do not trust traditional reporting methods, or do not feel sufficiently motivated to come forward.

Mission Statement

First Coast Crime Stoppers was established in response to a significant and ongoing need within Northeast Florida: residents often hold valuable information that could help prevent or solve crimes, yet many hesitate to report what they know due to fear of retaliation, mistrust of authorities, or uncertainty about safe reporting channels. This gap between community knowledge and law enforcement access has long challenged public safety efforts, particularly in urban centers such as Jacksonville, which has a population of approximately 970,000 residents. Locally, residents face elevated risks, with an estimated 1 in 140 chance of becoming a victim of violent crime and a 1 in 38 chance of experiencing property crime, underscoring the urgent need for a program that empowers residents to act without fear.
