A Jacksonville grandmother who witnessed a shooting last year was Later killed at a party. 

On June 13th 2025, at 1100 Grothe Street 32209, a ShotSpotter activation went off in the area. Once officers received this alert, they were sent to the location. Once there, they found Cassandra “Shawty Elizabeth Brown who was deceased due to a fatal shooting. She was sitting on a chair on the sidewalk in front of the house.

Initial investigation reveals that there was a block party with over 100 guests that night at Grother and Eaverson streets. Brown’s family believe her killing may be in relation to her role in testifying in a criminal trial previously. Brown had testified in the trial against Clara Temere Hill on June 16th, 2024. Brown along with another women identified Hill to the police as the suspect.

Soon after testifying, Brown started to receive threats from a man in police custody. Brown’s son states that this individual previously chased his mom around a car with two guns, but she was able to escape. An incident report states that Brown called the police on May 10th 2025 to report vandalism to her home and deflated tired on her car. Brown’s family said that she called the police several times before she was killed.
